“There are two ways you can live your life; one as though nothing is a miracle, the other as though everything is.”- Albert Einstein

Mellissa Morris

I am inspired by nature, abstraction, and my own sensitive sometimes unbearable tumultuous emotions. Some of my earliest childhood memories include; me being mad and frustrated at the world, running off into the woods to climb up trees, and to stare at the clouds…..to this day you can still find me in the woods, up a tree, staring off into space manifesting ideas for my art.

I studied traditional drawing and painting techniques yet my practice has evolved over the years. I forage my inspiration and materials from nature; gathering sticks, twigs, flowers, acorns, seaweed, amongst other natural elements to make multi-media sculptures, site-specific installations, layered paper assemblages including and not limited to books, drawings, and paintings.

I have a deep connection to nature it has always spoke to me on a visceral and spiritual level. I think a great deal of healing can come by simply being in the woods; listening, observing, watching, spending time opening oneself to the animals, bugs, & crafting the ability to tune into the cycles of the Seasons.

My art work is a reflection of my personal healing journey that nature has gifted me, my experiments, inventions, & foraged natural collections are echos of the natural healing world.
